Employee: ‘Foreclosure mill’ force her to work off clock
TAMPA – A former employee of a major foreclosure law firm in Tampa says she and others were forced to work “off the clock” to keep up with a flood of cases over the past three years.
Denise Vasquez has filed a lawsuit against Florida Default Law Group, alleging employees were regularly allowed five hours per week of overtime, but were also routinely required to work extra hours without pay.
This is the latest setback for a firm entrenched in the mortgage foreclosure meltdown involving law firms that handled hundreds of thousands of suits on behalf of lenders. The firm is among four under state investigation for rushing through paperwork and filing misleading documents.
The Florida Attorney General’s Office calls these firms “foreclosure mills” because of the large volume of cases they handle. Critics say the firms got so big that they fostered an atmosphere for sloppiness.
“Thousands of emails from all over the country would come in every day requiring action in the Florida Courts,” Vasquez’ suit says.
However, the law firm says the overtime case is unrelated.
“We treat our employees fairly, and in complete compliance with all standards and regulations,” said Ronald R. Wolfe, managing partner Florida Default. “We are
confident that no wrong doing occurred in this case.”

Is it true what other rumor mills are saying that Florida Default Law, Ronald R.Wolfe, Marshall C. Watson and others like them are not disbarred because Pam Bondi got paid off (for instance, with a large chunk or all of the $2 Million Marshall C. Watson was ordered to pay in restitution by a judge because nobody knows of any of it going to the right people)?
This is a great opportunity for those employees who worked at this Fraudclosure Mill to come forward and be a true American Hero and join the plaintiff in this law suit and turn it into a class action law suit against these parasites and make them paid by teaching them a lesson here. We need more plaintiffs to file law suits against all these mills that engaged in slaving people working over time without pay. I would love to see a deposition of any employee who was put through this and would love that their attorney will ask questions of what they know that actually happened behind close doors. I am sure there is so much we don’t know what is happening in those Foreclosure Mills, because we only heard about robo-signer and robo-stamper for Notaries.
I am sure there is so much that has been kept secret because there has not been a program or an offer to pay whistler blowers from any of those mills. Imagine the money the banks and the servicers made for the last 3 years foreclosing on average of 3 million homes per year. Why we had not heard the revenues these Foreclosure Mills are making every year for the last 3 years? Why we don’t hear much of what is happening to all the Law Firms that the Attorney Generals are investigating, like David J. Stern, Shapiro, and others?
Why does it take so long to know any results from the Attorney Generals in all 50 States investigating the banks? Are you beginning to wonder if in reality there is such investigations? Or do you think many Attorney Generals are living “La Vida Loca” with the banksters dinning and winning? I wouldn’t be surprise if this is a bit true, because after all, Who do you think pay many politicians millions of dollars to pass laws in their favor?
I wish Good Luck and hope that people who read this blog pass this info to others who worked over time and was mistreated in those Foreclosure Mills. I am proud of Denise Vasquez for being so brave and for coming forward to face this morons in the court. God Be with You! Have faith in the Justice System that a good judge is watching this and the out come will be a big victory for you and all the brave ones who come after you.
