Public Records request on records RE: Oregon House Judiciary Committee records on dash-7 amendment to Senate bill 519

Legislative Administration
Oregon State Capitol
900 Court St. NE, Room 140-A
Salem, Oregon 97301

Dear Legislative Administrator,

Pursuant to the Oregon open records law, ORS 192.410 to 192.505, I write to request a copy of all records of the Oregon House Judiciary Committee, its members, and its staff, relating to the dash-7 amendment to Oregon Senate Bill 519 (including the decision to postpone for one day the May 31, 2011 hearing on this bill due to the addition of the controversial dash-7 amendment).  The time period for the requested records is from April 21, 2011 (the date the bill passed in the Oregon Senate 28-1 prior to the attachment of the dash-7 amendment) through June 1, 2011 (the date the bill passed without the dash-7 amendment). These records include communiques to, from, or carbon copied, in the form of emails, minutes, calendar pages, or letters, etc.   I found the online audio archives of the May 26, 2011 and the June 1, 2011 hearings on this bill’s dash-7 amendment therefore there is no need to provide a CD or transcript of these hearings.   If your agency does not maintain these public records, please let me know who does and include the proper custodian’s name and address.

I prefer these records in electronic format.  I agree to pay any reasonable copying and postage fees of not more than $30.00. If the cost would be greater than this amount, please notify me. Please provide a receipt indicating the charges for each document.

If you choose to deny my request, please provide a written explanation for the denial including a reference to the specific statutory exemption(s) upon which you rely. If some of these records are disclosable and others are exempt, please provide the disclosable records and let me know the exemption(s) preventing disclosure of the rest.

Please understand that we seek these records for the purposes of public interest, and we hope that the spirit of openness in Oregon government will prevail.

Thank you for your time and assistance with this request.
