Marine To the NYPD: “You can laugh all you want but it takes a coward to harm unarmed civilians”
United States Marine Corps. Sgt. Shamar Thomas from Roosevelt, NY went toe to toe with the New York Police Department. An activist in the Occupy Wall Street movement, Thomas voiced his opinions of the NYPD police brutality that had and has been plaguing the #OWS movement.
Thomas is a 24-year-old Marine Veteran (2 tours in Iraq), he currently plays amateur football and is in college.
Thomas comes from a long line of people who sacrifice for their country: Mother, Army Veteran (Iraq), Step father, Army, active duty (Afghanistan), Grand father, Air Force veteran (Vietnam), Great Grand Father Navy veteran (World War II).

i feel a bit incensed that the police used police horses to intimidate the crowd in times square.
i think the nyc police horses are stabled with the carriage horses downtown in a pitiful ratty urban stable on the lower westside.
in my opinion, horses should not be used for either thing.
although picturesque, the carriages are cruel in the heat and cold. the horses should be running free in a pasture.

OWS is a movement that is not united. We the people of the United States of America need to unite and defend our rights under the Constitution. We need to take the power from the central bank. The Fed needs to be brought down. Our whole system of money is the problem. We need to start there. Withdraw all of our monies from the banks and take control of our own money system. Get money out of politics and replace the entire congress with real representatives for the people. OWS needs to channel their focus on the root of the problem with the economic collapse. The root of the problem is not wall street its the monetary system controlled by the central bank.
We are united…..there are just too many issues……it took too long for this evil to be exposed to the light!

I too wore a uniform and fought for democracy: the right to SAY just what we want to SAY…. The ‘other’ people of NY want to be able to walk down the street and speak as well. Civil Order MUST be maintained, and there IS a forum to speak………… it is NOT in the middle of a crowded street…!!! Look in the faces of those cops as this marine speaks the ‘truth’. You can see in (some) of their faces the dismay of their own uniform as officers of the law. One of them approached him to tell him he was with him in Iraq but yet he stands with the NYPD. In some small way, my sympathies go out to (some) of these officers who have a responsibility to their families in providing and this is THEIR job in doing so. I can bet that if they had a financial choice, they would join the ranks of the OWS. There are others, however, who take the authority given to a NYPD officer way too far; who think they are above the law; whose egos for power are far above those of their responsibility to protect and serve; who are narcissists and prey upon the downtrodden and the weak. For those, I have nothing but disdain! The PD officer with the bullhorn is just one of those persons and the young one, barely old enough that he could not remember WWII, Vietnam, Afghanistan.
This marine is a TRUE patriot.

It does kinda sorta look that way. But at the same time the Marine was speaking what I consider to be truth. I understand his anger, and I don’t believe it is misplaced. I DO NOT believe he is “off his meds.” Instead he is aware, passionate and takes his role as defender and protector of “the people” seriously.
I’m glad it didn’t deteriorate into violence. While that would likely further our cause (imagine the backlash against the NYPD, and the PTB generally) that simply isn’t the way i want things to play out.
I do recognize that in order to ultimately prevail we need more of his ilk. Every member of the military swears an oath to “defend and protect the Constitution of the United States, against enemies both foreign and domestic” (I hope I cited that correctly). I fear and believe the possibility of federal troops being called upon to quell the unrest will happen. So we need others of this ilk.
