Cummings Responds to Senate GOP Vote to Block Richard Cordray as Head of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
Washington, D.C. (Dec. 8, 2011) – Rep. Elijah Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement regarding Senate Republicans’ vote today to block President Obama’s nomination of Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB):
“Republicans blocked this nomination because they oppose the whole idea of an agency that protects middle-class families and American consumers from the abuses of Wall Street banks, mortgage servicers, payday lenders, and other unscrupulous corporations. Republicans seem to prefer leaving Americans vulnerable to fraud and abuse when they buy a home, pay for college, or apply for a credit card, rather than confirm a highly qualified regulator to lead the single federal agency established to protect the interests of consumers.”
On Tuesday, Cummings sent a letter to Senators Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell, Tim Johnson, and Richard Shelby expressing strong support for Cordray to serve as the first Director of the CFPB.

I have been hearing about this in the media…These idiots in Congress are Commies and they are digging their own political graves…I don’t often agree with Obama but, anytime he tries to do anything good for the people he gets knocked to his knees..that is obvious…Vote all of them out…We need an amendment to make all of the politicians sign a legal binding contract with We The People…and none of the President’s B appointments are allowed to come from Wall Street or be a member of the CFR
or any other secret society…Their rule by secrecy has nearly ruined the country…!
Well good for Cummings but his first letter of support of Cordray went amiss…don’t think this one will travel much farther. The letter is way tooo nicey…he needed to add some horns to the bull!!!
