Cummings Issues Statement on AIG’s Decision Not to Join Bailout Lawsuit

Washington, DC (Jan. 9, 2013) – Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued the following statement in response to the American International Group’s (AIG) decision today not to participate in a $25 billion shareholder lawsuit against the government:

“I’m pleased to hear that after receiving the largest bailout by the government to a private company in United States history, AIG has decided not to sue the taxpayers who provided it.”

Earlier today, Cummings and several other Members of Congress sent a letter to the President and CEO of AIG urging the firm not to participate in the lawsuit and instead to continue to earn the trust and confidence of the American people.
