“April 22, 2013 – Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, sponsor of SB 1666, isn’t concerned the bill didn’t make it onto the next Senate Appropriations Committee agenda, even though the panel is the bill’s last committee reference in the Senate.

“That’s what blue cards are for,” Latvala said, referring to the process lawmakers use to ask a bill to be withdrawn from committees for a floor vote.”

Fast foreclosure bill resurrected in Senate after thought dead

The speedy foreclosure bill that was passed by members of the Florida House on Monday was thought dead in the Senate by some hopeful homeowner advocates and defense attorneys.

It had failed to make it out of the Senate committee process, a signal the bill isn’t a priority for Senate leaders. But on Tuesday afternoon it was pulled onto the special order calendar for a reading tomorrow.

Senate Bill 1666, the companion to House Bill 87, appears on the Senate calendar this morning as lawmakers race to get legislation passed in the final three days of the 2013 legislative session.

“The Senate companion had another committee and when it wasn’t scheduled, we thought it was dead,” said foreclosure defense attorney Matt Weidner, who is opposed to the bill. “Senate President Gaetz had previously said that bills not through committee would be dead, but that may not be the case.”

The House passed the quickie foreclosure bill on Monday in an 87-26 vote.
