Closed Orlando law firm Butler & Hosch sued for $12 million

Orlando-based Butler & Hosch law firm, which collapsed suddenly in 2015, and its founder are facing a new $12 million dollar lawsuit.

The new lawsuit was filed Tuesday in Baltimore federal court, by former business partners of Robert Hosch Jr. — attorneys Mark and Gerard Wittstadt of the Baltimore area.

The lawsuit alleges that Hosch was negligent in allowing the Orlando-based firm to become overextended financially, and misrepresented the firm’s condition, in the months before it closed its doors. The big foreclosure firm had about 700 employees at one time, with major offices in Orlando, Tampa and Miami. Hundreds of people were suddenly without work when the firm closed.

Hosch has always maintained that he is innocent of abandoning clients and employees suddenly, but the new lawsuit is challenging Hosch’s assertions again. Hosch has blamed “unforeseen problems created by third parties.”
