Something Stinks: Town Sues Bank After Foreclosed Home Floods With Raw Sewage

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, MI – The township is taking legal action against Fifth Third Bank over a foreclosed multi-unit home that was infested with mold and flooded with raw sewage.

When building officials were alerted to the house by the Fair Housing Center of Southeast and Central Michigan in early August, two of four units were still occupied even though utilities had been cut.

Dennis McLain, an attorney for the township, said he filed for an emergency hearing in Washtenaw County Circuit Court. A judge ordered the occupants out of the house, at 1024 W. Michigan Ave., and barred anyone from living there until it’s repaired.
