They advertised as not selling their loans (maybe that's relevant.) They told me I was approved but never sent me anything in the mail like they were supposed to. It seemed too easy, especially since I had just been turned down for a four thousand dollar line of credit on a CareCredit card. I told them I wanted to read the terms of the loan prior to the closing (not day of.) They discouraged me. I insisted. The terms were seemingly a set up for failure. One stipulation was that if I were at all late, for any reason (even if it was not my fault at all) the bank could call in the note immediately. Another stipulation was that if I were to be involved in any court case, for ANY reason, the bank could call the loan in in full. At the time I was involved in a court case, and how was I supposed to guarantee I could go an additional thirty years without stepping into a courtroom? They wanted me to wave my rights of notification, amongst other rights. They wanted limited and special power of attorney. I told my realtor that I didn't want to sign. It basically seemed like the bank could come and take my house at will, without even telling me they were doing so (I know this sounds unbelievable. I have this paperwork.) The realtor said, "The bank doesn't want your house," in a don't-be-silly tone of voice. I said, but still, they can take it. If you're late with rent you have a three to five day grace period. According to this, home"owners" have less rights than renters. She said "it's standard." The lawyer (for the bank) said the bank has to protect itself. I refused to sign. They all, including the seller, said they were going to sue me as I didn't have a contingency allowing me the right to refuse. Somehow, that was the most ridiculous thing of all. I wonder how many people were intimidated into signing paperwork like that.
