Elizabeth Warren, chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel and professor of law at Harvard University, is getting some eye-catching support in a progressive push for the bailout watchdog to lead a new consumer financial protection agency.
In a new western-themed music video from Main Street Brigade, Warren is hailed as “the new sheriff.” The spot highlights her deep credentials and makes the case for why she should be the Obama administration’s pick to head the recently-established CFPA.
A Time Magazine cover story published in May lauded Warren as one of “the new sheriffs of Wall Street.”
Warren was the first to envision creating a bureau specifically aimed at protecting consumers from predatory lending practices.
Her candidacy to lead the new body has been endorsed by Americans for Financial Reform, a coalition of 250 organizations long campaigning for legislation aimed at bringing new rules for the financial system. According to AFR, she “has shown a steadfast and tireless commitment to protecting consumers throughout her distinguished career and is without question the best candidate.”

Yes, all we need is another regulator to protect us from the banksters and their criminal conduct. All of the other regulators, prosecutors, and law enforcement agencies were just too busy filling the prisons with children and poor people to pay any attention to the banksters committing fraud and stealing homes. By the way, they were also too busy to enforce laws prohibiting big business from hiring illegal immigrants.
Will this new “sheriff” do the job that all of the other “sheriffs” refused to do? Will she make the banksters follow the law? Will she enforce the law protecting Americans from having to compete with illegal immigrant labor or is there another new “sheriff” who will do that since all of the other sheriffs are too busy to do it now?
Surely, this new regulatory agency and its new czar will stop the crimes of the banksters, and then, everything will be wonderful again in the land of the free, except for millions of Americans who lost their homes, their life savings, their credit ratings, and their jobs due to the economic collapse caused by the banksters’ rampant fraud. Will this new “sheriff” get any redress for the millions of victims of the banksters’ crimes?
Wait, if the United States is a government of, by and for the people, why do we have to beg a prosecutor to prosecute crimes committed against us? Why do we have to beg for redress for the crimes committed against us? Why have the petitions of millions of Americans been ignored by all of the other “sheriffs” a.k.a. prosecutors, regulators, and even sheriffs?
