Morgan Stanley Exec Charged With Hate Crime

Morgan Stanley’s William Bryan Jennings, the bank’s bond-underwriting chief in the U.S., was charged with a hate crime in the stabbing a New York City cab driver of Middle Eastern descent over a cab fare.

The driver, identified by a police report as Mohamed Ammar, said Jennings assaulted him Dec. 22 with a 2 ½ inch blade and used racial slurs after a 40-mile cab ride from New York to his $3.4 million home in Connecticut’s Fairfield County, according to the report and Darien Police Detective Mark Cappelli.

Jennings and Ammar argued over the fare from New York, where he told police he had attended a company party at a boutique hotel. After arriving at his driveway, Jennings refused to pay $204, the driver told police. When Ammar said he would call police, Jennings told him police wouldn’t do anything to him because he pays $10,000 in taxes, according to the report.

When Ammar backed out of the driveway as Jennings attempted to leave the vehicle, the banker called him an expletive and said “I’m going to kill you. You should go back to your country,” according to the police report filed in Connecticut Superior Court in Stamford. A fight ensued as they drove through Darien and Jennings allegedly cut Ammar.
