Your first paragraph is telling---"Banks are walking away from thousands of vacant properties after starting and then refusing to complete the foreclosure process because they do not want to pay for maintaining the homes." The problem with this is people walk away from hundreds of thousands of dollars and than banks stop the foreclosure. Several years go by and the homeowners are sued by courts for tens of thousands in back-taxes as the still own the house. In some cases the home has set for years and between vandalism and decay they are in a deeper mess as the city or county is demanding the home be fixed. It is a bad situation and banks are not on the hook if they walk away. This article was great and I already shared it with many Central Florida realtors. As a Foreclosure Attorney in OrlandoWikipedia we see many clients effected like this. Our understanding is it is about to get worse.
