2nd defendant to appear in Vegas robo-signing case

LAS VEGAS — A 49-year-old California property title officer is due for his first appearance in a Las Vegas court following his indictment on more than 600 charges in a massive “robo-signing” scheme that investigators say led to the filing of tens of thousands of fraudulent foreclosure documents.

Gary Randall Trafford’s appearance Friday in Clark County District Court comes after 62-year-old co-defendant Geraldine Ann Sheppard pleaded not guilty Wednesday and was released on $50,000 bail pending trial Sept. 17.

Sheppard and Trafford worked for a publicly traded company, Lender Processing Services, based in Jacksonville, Fla., that provides technology and services to major banks nationwide.

The Nevada state attorney general accuses them of directing employees to fraudulently notarize notices of default for filing with the Clark County recorder’s office from 2005 to 2008.
