Oh No New Jersey! Another Credit Counseling Agency Opens in Atlantic City to Deal with Foreclosures
Credit counseling agency Clarifi will open a branch office in Atlantic City to help those workers affected by casino and other layoffs there.
Markita Morris-Louis, senior vice president of community affairs and general counsel at Clarifi, said Atlantic City government officials originally contacted the agency in March to see if it would provide financial literacy counseling to city employees.
The request soon expanded to assisting the roughly 10,000 employees who were laid off by the closure of four casinos in 2013. Combined with the residue of the recession, Atlantic City now has the highest foreclosure rate of any city in the country and unemployment stands at 7.8 percent.
