Michigan AG asked not to sign on to foreclosure fraud deal with feds

In his letter, delivered to Schuette’s office Tuesday morning, Hertel wrote the attorney general:

I am writing to ask that you stand firm, and refuse to add Michigan to any settlement that would give criminal immunity to the defendants. Our ongoing investigations have demonstrated that the major banks in this settlement, and their hired document mills, were engaged in the practice of robo-signing. Hundreds of residents here in Ingham County, and thousands of residents across the state, were illegally foreclosed upon because of this practice.

These illegalities have stolen due process from our own citizens, and robbed them of precious time that could have been used to recover and resume their mortgages, or obtain a modification. A family who is facing a foreclosure is already vulnerable; this practice insured that they could not possibly reclaim their home.

“Those crimes were committed in our offices and essentially destroyed our land property records,” Hertel says of the alleged frauds. “You shouldn’t be able to buy your way out of criminal investigations.”

    I had previously emailed Mr. Hertel – he is a true American hero. He is one of the only registrars in Michigan that stood up for the people. We’d like to know what is up with the other registrars? Shame on you.

    Mr. MI AG’s office won’t even acknowledge robo-signing complaints about Trott & Trott attorneys — that fraudclosure firm seems to “own” every AG. Bastards.

    But – Mr. Hertel – we applaud you!

    Hertel for Governor…heck, President :)

    Where’s COOK COUNTY RECORDER OF DEEDS…EUGENE MOORE? Or does Rahm have him tied up and locked in a closet some where? I would like him to write a formal letter to the State AG LISA MADIGAN as well as the OBAMA ADMINISTRATION…ABOUT THE MORTGAGE FRAUD. COOK COUNTY RECORDER OF DEEDS ..EUGENE MOORE… CLEARLY STATES IN HIS HOME PAGE…THE MORTGAGE FRAUD WAS PERVASIVE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE MORTGAGE INDUSTRY!!!!

    Just got off the phone with Mr. Hertel. I am so proud ..I am just so proud to see Registrars like yourself standing up for us. Simply recognizing our concerns , compiling the facts and writing a letter so perfectly on point is much appreciated by homeowners like myself. You energize us. My name is Jaclyn and I am fighting back BOA since 2008.
