Crowds at Stern hearings prompt video link

So many people are clamoring to get into the case management hearings of former David J. Stern foreclosures that Chief Judge Peter Blanc is ordering a video feed be set up outside the courtroom.

The feed will go live today with 500 cases scheduled to be heard.

Homeowner advocate Lisa Epstein brought the issue up with Blanc in a letter following the first hearing last week. Because of the limited space in courtroom 9D, not everyone who wanted to attend could.

“A pleasant court staffer politely informed us that the courtroom was ‘too crowded’, and directed us to another courtroom if we wished to observe foreclosure proceedings,” Epstein wrote.

She then quoted from a November letter from Florida Supreme Court Justice Charles T. Canady saying “No crisis justified the administrative suspension of the strong legal presumption that the state court proceedings are open to the public.”
